Normal life hit as TAKDAL's public curfew begins

Normal life in the state was affected on Friday on account of the 48 -hour public curfew imposed by Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) denouncing failure of the central and state government to take up concrete steps for ending ongoing unrest in the state.
However, the public curfew was lifted later on taking into consideration of the incident at Pallel.
The public curfew was announced protest the four-month-long violence in Manipur, which has led to displacement of thousands of families and claimed hundreds of precious human lives.
Before the public curfew was lifted, all business establishments in Imphal including the main business hub of Khwairamband Keithel remained closed, inter district transport came to a standstill, educational institutions and banks remained shut.
Attendance in government offices was thin, taxis and autorickshaws kept off the roads.
Nevertheless, flight services were normal.
However, the old and new secretariat office in Imphal was opened and attendance in this office was high.
Moreover, the petrol pumps in and around Imphal area were also opened to public.
During the public curfew, there was no report of any unwanted incident happening.
In some areas, people blocked roads.
Near the gate of Singjamei police station in Imphal, several meira paibis were seen blocking the vehicles belonging to the Rapid Action Forces.
In Thoubal district, supporting the 48 hours public curfew imposed by TAKDAL, people came out on roads and blocked roads and burnt effigies in different areas in Friday.
Thoubal circle Meira Paibi blocked roads at Thoubal Mela ground and burnt effigies.
Athokpam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup also held similar protest along National Highway 102 at Athokpam Keithel while Wangkhem Youth Club and Wangkhem Meira Paibi at Wangkhem Keithel.
The protestors burnt effigies of CM N Biren, BJP Manipur president Sharda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shouted slogans.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a Meira Paibi protestor stated that people are suffering tremendously as state and central governments are in deep slumber despite the incessant attacks by Kuki militants.
Denouncing their silence and inaction, the effigies are being burnt as a form of protest, she added.
