International Literacy Day-2022 observed

Imphal, September 08 2022:
The International Literacy Day-2022 was observed at Sangaiyumpham community hall in Thoubal district on Thursday along with an awareness programme on importance of literacy and highlight issues and challenges of literacy at the global, national and state levels.
The observance was organised by All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association, Imphal in association with Muslim Students' Development Organisation, Sangaiyumpham with Khangabok MLA Okram Surjakumar Singh as chief Gguest, Thoubal ZP member Md Hifzur Rahman, DC (Thoubal) A Subhas Singh, IAS (retired) MA Sattar and MCS (Retd) Abdus Salam as guests of honour.
The programme presided by AMP-WA president IAS (Retd) AR Khan was attended by its central executive members', Ulemas, teachers and students of schools of Sangaiyumpham village and surrounding areas.
As the resource persons, Lilong Haoreibi College principal Dr Ra heijuddin Sheikh, Imphal College Department of Political Science assistant professor Dr Farijuddin Khan and High Court of Manipur advocate Mohammed Ajmal Hussain spoke on 'National Education Policy 2020 and Vocational Education', 'Status of Literacy In India and Challenges faced by Muslims' and 'Legal Literacy' respectively.
As part of the event, a spot quiz programme was also conducted based on the topics spoken by the resource persons and VIPs followed by presentation of prizes to the winners.
In his address as the chief guest, MLA Surjakumar said that nations with high literacy rate area always ahead in every sector of development as malpractices and corruption are insignificant in such societies.
Even during elections in such advanced societies involvement of money out of the question as the citizens are matured enough to elect good leaders, he said.
Stating that western countries as well as Kerala state in India are glaring examples, he appealed for extensive publicity campaigns and efforts to make the masses literate in every held.
The chief guest also emphasised on the importance of education and exhorted the students to focus on availing the best education to empower themselves and make a better human being and better citizen to serve the nation.
In his speech, DC Subhas stated that literate or educated people should be responsible citizens while maintaining that one cannot be considered educated if his behaviour and dealings with the fellow citizens do not change.
Md Hifzur Rahman and MA Sattar also spoke about the importance of literacy and education in the light of the Holy book Quran and appealed to the students to study the book with understanding.
Meanwhile, AR Khan highlighted AMPWA's role in making a quiet revolution in education among the Meitei Pangal communitv through periodical conduct of educational awareness campaigns in Meitei Pangal dominated villages during the last 30 years.
