Shija Vision Center opened at Nambol

A ritual inauguration ceremony marked the official opening of Shija Vision Center at Nambol on Friday.
Shija Eye Care Foundation in partnership with Mission for Vision, Mumbai, and Wen Giving Foundation, set up the center, said a press release of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute.
It may be noted that Shija Vision Center at Churachan-dpur has also been made operational since July 2019 .
The event was attended by Dr Sachindra Laishram, consultant ophthalmologist; Dr Yengkhom Shailendra, consultant ophthalmologist; Anisha Khundongbam, deputy manager operations; Denish Thokchom, deputy manager and Khangembam Rojikanta, assistant manager, Shija Eye Care Foundation.
The Vision Center has been set up with the objective to increase and improve comprehensive eye care for the unreached population in Bishnupur district.
The center will offer complete eye examination to diagnose refraction, cataract, glaucoma, and other eye conditions, testing for diabetes, dispensing of eyeglasses, and care for simple ocular emergency services.
The center is equipped with ophthalmic and other equipment to enable basic eye examination and manned by qualified staff, the release said.
According to World Health Organization, people with visual impairment are three times more likely to be unemployed, suffer from depression, and meet road accidents.
Setting up these vision centers will encourage people to seek care earlier, prevent vision from deterioration and reintegrate into the workforce.
It will also offer accessible and affordable eye care facilities in remote parts of the region, it further informed.
Shija Eye Care Foundation (SECF), aunit of Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, is a center par excellence for the treatment of eye-related problems.
The center is mentored by Aravind Eye Care System, Madurai, and manned by highly qualified eye care professionals and well-trained staff to render treatment for various eye-related problems and emergencies.
SECF has been a huge driving force in eradicating blindness through various free comprehensive camps, cataract detection, and surgery camps.
More than 12,000 cataract surgeries have been performed free of cost under the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB, NHM) and other sponsorship programs till date and still counting, the release added.
