Weavers, artisans urged to set reasonable price

Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited (MH HDCL) managing director E Jiten has urged weavers and artisans to set reasonable price for their products, stat ing that setting a high price could result in loss of market opportunities.
Speaking at a buyer seller meet organised by the Corpo ration under 'Policy for Use of Handlooms and Handi crafts Products in Government Offices and Establishments' at its Paona Keithel office premises on Friday, Jiten highlighted the policy of the government to promote local weavers and artisans while also mentioning about low production capability.
He urged the weavers and artisans to increase production rate and also set a reasonable price.
For instance, silk sari made in the state used to cost around Rs 10,000 some years back but it has crossed Rs 25,000.People from other states, who want such products are left without any choice but to ignore, said the managing director.
While it is true that hand-made products have premium price tag, but setting a reasonable price after calculating the input cost and time consumed, Would be a better choice for sustainability, he added.
Jiten also stressed the need for.
diversification of products and exploring different designs while maintaining standard quality.
He further encouraged the weavers and artisans to cultivate a healthy habit of competition among themselves.
