Sit-ins protest attack by Kuki 'terrorists', SoO pact

Imphal, July 05 2023: Protesting against the attack by armed Kuki militants on Meitei community and the demand for separate administration, a sit-in demonstration was organised by Thangmeiband Youth Centre and Meira Paibi at Thangmeiband Hijam De-wan Leikai, on Wednesday.

Meira paibi activists present at the protest regretted that the state and the central governments are unable to resolve the unrest situation even after over 60 days of the ethnic violence.

They also condemned the demand by the 10 Kuki MLAs for separate administration in Manipur and remarked that such demand should not be endorsed at any cost.

They also stated that the arms and ammunition in the hands of the Kukis need to be seized if at all the present war is to be put to an end.

Meanwhile, under the aegis of COCOMI, womenfolk of Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association (KWWA) staged a sit-in protest demanding immediate revocation of SoO agreement with Kuki militants, at Wangmataba Mathak, in Thoubal district on Wednesday.

Similar protest was also organised by volunteers of Young Development Sports Organisation (YDSO) and Nupi Chaokhat Khongthang at Thoubal Wangma Taba Litan Makhong in the district.

During the protests, the participants held placards inscribed with slogans such as "We want peace", "Remove Assam Rifles", "Withdraw SoO with Kuki militants immediately", etc.
