ATSUM hails Cabinet's decision to appoint teachers

Imphal, September 04 2014: The Muan Tombing led All Tribal Students' Union (ATSUM) lauded Manipur Cabinet decision to appoint 1800 Primary and Graduate teachers on Wednesday, but demanded that the service of all the Primary, Hindi Matriculate and Graduate teachers appointed on contract basis in 2006 be regularised.

Talking to reporters here, ATSUM president Muan Tombing said the student body is happy that the state Government has decided to recruit 1300 Primary teachers and 500 Graduate teachers under SSA.

But he demanded that the Government regularise the service of all the Primary, Hindi Matriculate and Graduate teachers appointed on contract basis in 2006, saying ATSUM has been craving and working for development of the education system.

Tombing reiterated that the student body's 15-day deadline given to Manipur Government for implementation of Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 will expire on September 6, and demanded the latter to fulfill it promptly.

However, the student leader announced that the union's proposed strike over issue of non-implementation of the Reservation in Admission will be suspended as the United Naga Council (UNC) has called for an indefinite National Highways bandh beginning tomorrow.

Tombing said the union will launch agitation over the reservation issue if the Act is not implemented.
