UCM extends relief to flood affected people

United Committee Manipur (UCM) has sought alternative crops that can be harvested in a short period for all farmers whose standing crops have been destroyed by flash floods.
On Tuesday, a team of UCM led by its president Elangbam Johnson and secretary Y Dhiren distributed relief supplies to people affected by flood in Wangoo area of Bishnupur district.
Rice, dal, edible oil, salt and potato were distributed to hundreds of residents who are now taking temporary shelter at different relief camps.
The UCM team used one Shaktiman truck to enter the flooded area.
Johnson expressed serious concern about the flood victims who are not getting safe drinking water and appealed to the Government to take up immediate measures to tackle the situation.
He also said children and cattle are falling ill and appealed to the department concerned as well as all local health centres to rush to the area.
The relief camps were Chairen, Pangaltabi, Tangjeng, Serou, Chairen Makha Leikai, Chairen Khongnang Leikai, Napet, Wangoo Lairembi, Wangoo Tera Mayai Leikai, Wangoo Chuthek, Wangoo Ahallup, Wangoo Khongnang Makhong, Wangoo Chingjin Marin, Wangoo Chingjin, Wangoo Cachartabi and Shandangkhong.
The flood victims drew the attention of the Government to their woe and sought immediate relief.
