Protest against AR withdrawal marks Kuki-Zo Remembrance Day

The 15th Remembrance Day observed by Kuki-Zo community on Saturday was marked by a massive demonstration and ceremony aimed at drawing attention to the precarious security situation in the region.
The event underscored the community's concern over the proposed withdrawal of Assam Rifles and its potential consequences in regional stability.
Thousands of Kuki-Zo people gathered at Gamgiphai in Sadar Hills showcasing a significant turnout from across the region.
The protest included one km long rally that began from Gamgiphai, proceeded till Charhajare, before returning to Gamgiphai.
The rally demanded reversal of government's decision to withdraw Assam Rifles from the region as presence of the paramilitary force is crucial for maintaining peace-and protecting Kuki-Zo community from ethnic violence.
The day concluded with a solemn ceremony honouring Kuki-Zo people who lost their lives in the ongoing ethnic conflict.
Meanwhile, Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has vowed to resort to extreme form of agitations if the decision for removal of Assam Rifles is not reversed while maintaining that withdrawal of the paramilitary force could potentially destabilize the area and jeopardize the ongoing peace efforts.
It also announced complete total shutdown across Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district on Saturday but vehicular movement along the National Highway was exempted from the purview of the shutdown.
