Imphal, February 03 2022:
While expressing remorse over non-inclusion of Meetei Mayek (MM) as an option for appearing in the UPSC exam in its notification issued on Wednesday, Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has urged the state government to make an arrangement at the earliest so that candidates could write the examination in Meetei Mayek also.
In a release, MEELAL general secretary Huirem Loikhomba Meetei said that the non-inclusion of the option to write the exam in Meetei Mayek is depressing for students of the state and future generations of civil service aspirants.
While pointing out that MEELAL has been working tirelessly to promote the lingua franca of the state and its script, he expressed hope that the people will also stand and strive for further development and promotion of the indigenous language and script.
With commencement of teaching Meetei Mayek in schools since 2006, students will now be facing its MA 3rd semester examination, he continued.
However, dearth of text books written in Meetei Mayek at university level will surely affect the students, who are the future generations, the secretary rued.
While urging authorities not to set questions from books that are yet to be transliterated into Meetei Mayek for the BA and MA exams, Loikhomba cautioned of barining the exam if authorities set questions from such books.
