Imphal, November 01 2024:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) president Mayengbam So-morjit has disputed the establishment of the Diabetes Hospital and Research Institute, located opposite JNIMS, claiming that the Institute is not registered with the Manipur Health Directorate.
He raised a poser as to whether anyone can open and operate a hospital without registration.
The student leader further questioned the qualifications of the Institute's managing director (MD), Moirangthem Dhanabir, enquiring where he obtained the medical degree along with seeking clarification on the same to the public within two days.
Addressing the media at its Kwakeithel office on Friday, SomOrjit posed whether anyone could open clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, hospitals or nursing institutes in the state without registering with the Directorate.
He then urged the Health Directorate to look into the registration of the Diabetes Hospital and Research Institute and register suo moto case against the Institute, claiming that it has been registered illegally as a society.
Furthermore, no permission has been granted for clinics and hospitals to be registered with the state AYUSH Directorate, he noted.
The president continued that the claim that the Dia-betes Hospital and Research Institute is registered with the AYUSH Directorate, is misleading.
"It should be made clear if the doctors employed at the hospital are already working elsewhere," Somorjit demanded, and reiterated that DESAM would inquire into the registration status of such medical institutions.
