State level debating competition held

As a part of the ongoing campaign for disturbance free education zone, Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand organised a state level open debate competition on the topic "Lamdamsigi Maheirois-ingna Mahei Masin Tambada Ihengnariba Cheithengsing Asi Leingakki Asoiba Thouwongna Thok-hanbani' at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday.
Veteran journalist Leihaothabam Saratchandra attended the debating competition as the main speaker.
Speaking in this regard, Committee member and DESAM secretary general M Somorjit Luwang informed that the competition has been organised as a part of the campaign launched since 2008 .
He said that education sector, which produced human resources should not be hindered by any factors, and as such the campaign is being carried out to ask all Concerned not to make any monetary demands, threat by planting bombs and closing down educational institutes.
Stressing the need for filling up the inadequacies in infrastructure and teachers in government educational institutions from school to university level, Somorjit appealed to all not to politicise in education sector.
Without proper educational norms, the state could not progress.
As such, no one should hinder in the education sector, he added.
The debating competition was attended by 13 competitors, out of which 18 supported the motion and five opposed.
Thokchom Sanathoi of the opposition bench and Umar Nongai and Moirangthem Amarjit, both of the treasury bench, won first, second and third prize of the competition respectively.
