Healthy heart means healthy body and life: Director

As a healthy heart is crucial for a healthy body and life, the government is taking up all necessary measures to develop a healthy society, which is achievable with ease in case the masses are made aware of the same, said Health Services director Dr O Sanahanbi.
State Non-Communicable Disease Division of National Health Mission Manipur and National Program of Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD) jointly observed World Heart Day 2024 on the theme 'Use Heart for Action' as well as the closing function of International Week of the Deaf People at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat on Sunday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr O Sanahanbi informed that heart diseases/ailments are the leading cause of death all over the world, regardless of age, gender, caste, race or creed.
There are numerous risk factors associated with heart disease such as unhealthy diet habit, physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use, stress and other health conditions.
However, the said risk factors can be avoided with a strong will and determination to live a healthy life, she said.
The director continued that majority of the fast foods contain saturated fats, spices and salt, and also not properly cooked, which, in turn, increases the risk of heart diseases.
Further stating that street foods are not healthy, Dr Sanahanbi proposed proper management of stress through practicing yoga, meditation, zumba and others.
She then urged for collective efforts in maintaining a healthy heart and healthy lifestyle.
The programme was also attended by Directorate of Health Services additional directors (Public Health) Dr Chambo Gonmei and (Planning) Dr N Hemantakumar as presidium members.
