MMTU sets meet of indigenes

The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has said that they will organise a one day convention on Protection of Indigenous People of Manipur in association with Platform for Protection of Indigenous People (PPIP) at Hotel Imphal on November 30 .
MMTU, in a statement, said that the convention which will be organised under the supervision of Adivasi Samanvay Manch of India will be inaugurated by Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly The Satyabrata.
The Union further said that tribal leaders from across the country will take part in the programme.
Saying that the gathering will hold discussion on safeguarding the rights of tribal people in the country, MMTU added that the problems being faced by Meetei and other small tribes of Manipur will also be discussed during the convention.
The Union, meanwhile, said that MMTU and PPIP leaders raised the matter pertaining to the socio-political and economic conditions of Meetei as well the threat being posed by illegal immigrants in Manipur during a meeting of indigenous tribes organised by Adivasi Samanvay Manch at Solan in Himachal Pradesh in September.
