Moirang bodies prohibit sale of land to outsiders

Local clubs operating in areas from Moirang to Churachandpur have adopted a resolution not to sell land to non-indigenous people.
Speaking to media persons at Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) office located at Paona Keithel Jupiter Yambem Centre here on Saturday, Torbung Bangla Social Welfare Club president T Ramesh informed that a joint meeting of local clubs, organisations and meira lup from Moirang to Churachandpur was convened and adopted a resolution to safeguard Meetei community from becoming a minority.
As the present MLR&LR Act prohibits Meetei from settling in specific areas of the state, the resolution was adopted to safeguard land of the indigenes, he continued.
Making it clear that any land from Moirang to Churachandpur are restricted from sale to non-indigenous people, Ramesh cautioned that decision of the clubs will be final if anyone is found selling their land to non-indigenous people without the knowledge of the clubs.
As such, all those processing to sell their land should first inform and discuss it with the local clubs concerned, he continued, while urging the youth and women in particular not to get married to non-indigenous people.
Ramesh also demanded the government to amend the MLR & RL Act at the earliest and allow indigenous people to settle anywhere independently in the state.
Urging the government to protect the indigenes of Manipur, he also called for a legislation which can protect the indigenous Meetei community.
