Imphal, September 26 2014 :
Janata Dal (U) Manipur State Unit has demanded both the State Government and Central Government to produce a white paper to prove that the ceasefire agreement between the NSCN (IM) and Government of India is not applicable in the State of Manipur.
Addressing a press meet here at its office at Babupara, M Tombi, president of JD (U) Manipur State Unit said that NSCN (IM) has been carrying out subversive activities including murder of government officials though the ceasefire is not extended in the State as claimed by the BJP party prior to the By-election to Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency to be held on October 17 .
He stated that the announcement of without territorial limit in the peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and GoI in 2001 led to the infamous June 18 incident in which many civilians laid down their lives in police firing while protesting the announcement.
''JD (U) will not field its candidate for contesting in the ensuing Hiyanglam By-election.
However, the party will work with other like-minded political parties to ensure that the election is held in free and fair manner,'' he added.
Saying that the State has been reeling under various outstanding issues thereby affecting peace and tranquility, he demanded the government to look into all the issues confronting the State including restoration of National Highways at the earliest.
He pointed out that citizens of the State are deprived of their basic rights which is due to poor governance and slammed the government for pulling back the State forces from Ukhrukl district despite volatile law and order situation still prevailing in the district.
