Two from state gets Padmashri

Imphal, January 25 2023:
Two Manipuris have been selected among 91 personalities for this year's Padmashri award as the ministry of home af fairs announced the award winners on Wednesday, on the eve of Republic Day, 2023 .
The two are K Sanathoiba Sharma (sports) and Thounaojam Chaoba Singh (public affairs) .
Sanathoiba is the principal cum director of Huyel Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung.
Three from Assam, two each from Nagaland & Tripura, and one each from Sikkim, Mizoram & Meghalaya are also among the Padmashri award winners from northeast.
Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
The Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, viz.-art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
'Padma Vibhushan' is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of high order and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
This year's list of winners comprises six Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri Awards.
Of them, 19 are women and the list also includes two persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and seven posthumous awardees.
