150 tree saplings planted at RIMS campus

Imphal, July 23 2023:
As part of Van Mahot-sav observance, Rotary Club of Imphal (RCI) in association with Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Forest Department planted 150 saplings at RIMS campus on Sunday.
The observance was held in connection with the community service project of the Club under the theme of 'Save Mother Earth' and as part of Swachhta Action Plan 2023-24 .
Inaugurating the event, RIMS director Prof Guru -aribam Sunil Kumar Shar-ma emphasised the need to plant more trees to make the campus greener, adding that planting trees is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of tackling the climate crisis and global warming.
He then asked the students and staff to plant at least 10 trees per year to make the campus green zone in the coming 5-10 years.
RIMS medical superintendent and Rotary Club of Imphal president Prof Nepram Sanjib Singh stated that plating trees not only cleanses the environment but also provides oxygen, shade and protection from ultraviolet rays.
He then appealed to the people to plant as much tress as possible, while thanking the officials of Rotary Club of Imphal and Forest Department for their support in making the celebration and tree plantation programme more complete.
The programme was also attended by RIMS officials and staff, Rotary Club of Imphal members, Forest Department officials, staff of CRED and Manipur Security Service, RIMS.
