Arms trafficker nabbed, contraband items seized

Imphal, October 21 2021:
Loktak Battalion of IGAR (S) apprehended a wanted arms, trafficker in Bishnupur on Wednesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on specific input from reliable sources, troops of Assam Rifles along with Mayang Imphal police team and Imphal West Commando launched a joint operation leading to the nabbing of the trafficker.
The arms trafficker, who has been handed over to Mayang Imphal Police Station for further investigation, was reportedly involved in supplying two AK 47 rifles to an insurgent group and an FIR had been lodged against him at Lilong Police Station last year, it added.
Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (S) recovered contraband items approximately worth Rs 18.24 lakh near Kwatha in Tengnoupal on Wednesday.
In another release, the PRO informed that an operation was launched by the troops of Assam Rifles based on reliable input regarding movement of illegal items.
During the operation, a total of 11 packages containing cosmetic and electronic items were recovered.
The recovered items along with two smugglers have been handed over to the Customs department for further action, it added.
