Imphal, July 21 2022:
Viva voce successful candidates of 10th and 11th IRB marched to Chief Minister N Biren's residence at Luwangshangbam Maning Leikai demanding announcement of results of the recruitment process.
Holding banners and placards, viva voce successful candidates of 10th and 11th IRB marched towards the CM's residence from Mantripukhri today but they were stopped by commando personnel deployed at the CM's residence a few metres before they reached their target.
As the protesters and the commando personnel were caught in a heated argument, a large team of Imphal East District Police arrived at the scene.
Even as the police team asked the IRB candidates to stop their agitation and leave the area, a confrontation broke out between the two sides.
Subsequently, the police personnel charged the protesters with batons.
In the ensuing ruckus, some of them (protesters) fell into road side drain.
Later, police picked up three of the protesters and they were taken to Heingang police station.
Lamenting that the State Government has not been declaring the results of 10th IRB and 11th IRB recruitment process even though the viva voce was held a long time back, one of the protesters appealed to Chief Minister N Biren to announce the recruitment results at the earliest.
He said that the Chief Minister gave assurance three times on different platforms that the recruitment results would be announced shortly.
Notably, Chief Minister, when launching five GPS-enabled highway patrol vehicles for Imphal-Moreh highway on June 8, announced that the recruitment results of 10th and 11th IRB would be announced within the month of June and trained personnel would join highway protection force.
