Bishnupur, August 20 2021:
Recalling the assurance given by the chief minister to provide adequate quantity of urea, Heibokmayum Ram, a farmer of Kwakta village, said that allocation of the urea should be able to cater to farmers who collectively own 10,000 paris of paddy land in Kwakta area under Moirang AC.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, Raffi informed that out of the 10,000 paris of agricultural land under Kwakta Municipal Council and Kwakta Gram Panchayat, 100 paris in Kwakta Loubuk Loukol under ward no 8 of the Council are in urgent need of urea.
Only a bag of urea is being used in cultivation of paddy in a held where two bags are needed, while in some farms, not a single bag of urea has been applied, he conveyed.
Recalling that the farmlands in Kwakta faced water problem due to delay of monsoon rain in previous years; Raffi maintained that they have adequate irrigation water this year.
However, availability of adequate water will be meaningless as the farmers are currently facing dearth of fertiliser when it is most needed.
There will be no use of fertilisers if it is not applied within a week, he said, while cautioning the government that the farmers will launch protest and agitations in case their issues are not addressed satisfactorily.
He also urged the CM to provide fertiliser to farmers within a week so to mitigate their problem.
