Meira paibi groups flay police action

Kontha Ahallup and Heingang constituency meira paibi groups have appealed to the State Government on Friday to stop the police from further arresting and torturing residents of the area in connection with the killing of Muhammad Lukaman.
A joint meeting of joint meira paibi groups of Kontha Ahallup and Heingang, and a joint action committee (JAC) formed against the alleged police atrocities meted out to the local residents over the death of Muhamad Lukaman was organised at the Kontha Ahallup community hall.
The meeting urged the State Government to instruct the police station concerned to desist from arresting and torturing residents of the area over the death of Muhammad Lukaman.
The JAC and meira paibi leaders claimed that Muhammad Lukaman was trying to steal a newly bought Tata Magic van from Kontha Ahallup.
Muhammad Lukaman, a resident of Thoubal Moijing was found dead at Ahalup bazaar after he had reportedly gone missing on March 16.The JAC against the killing of Muhammad Lukaman enforced a 24-hour State wide bandh from the past midnight in protest.
