Imphal, January 17 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged the state forces deployed in Moreh to restore peace in the border town not to wait for orders from the government to repulse attacks by armed Kukis and Myanmar-based militants.
Speaking to the media at its Lamphel office on Wednesday, COCOMI coordinator Jitendra Ningomba declared that COCOMI and the people of Manipur have unwavering support for the state forces.
The coordinator also questioned why central forces, Assam Rifles in particular, are refusing to act when the armed Kukis and Myanmar-based militants are attacking the state forces with rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) and sniping weapons.
Recounting that GOC of Eastern Command, during his recent visit to Moreh, had stated that Assam Rifles would take action if the Kuki militants continue their attacks, Jitendra said questioned the rationale and motive for the central forces simply watching from the sideline when the state forces were attacked with RPGs on Wednesday.
Condemning the atrocities committed by Kuki militants in Haotak and most recently, the attack in Koutruk on Tuesday, Jitendra pointed out the attack on state forces in Moreh on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, where one CDO personnel lost his life and three other left injured.
As such, the stand of the central and state governments at this juncture is question able.
He further questioned what action the central and state governments are planning to take against CoTU, ITLF and KIM, which have given an ultimatum of annihilating the administration of Manipur government if the two accused involved in the murder of Moreh SDPO Ch Anand were not released within 48 hours.
The government should declare these three bodies unlawful immediately, he asserted.
The coordinator continued that security advisor Kuld-iep Singh has failed to carry out his duties properly and is unable to control the law and order in the state.
Thus, there is the need to appoint a more capable security advisor who is aware of the ground reality in the state.
In addition, the officers of state forces on duty in Moreh should act against the Kuki militants without waiting for the orders of the government.
COCOMI and the people of Manipur will stand firm for the state forces, he assured, while cautioning that COCOMI will act accordingly if the government works against the wishes of the people.
