Theatre workshop for displaced children commences

A 15-day summer theatre workshop for children jointly organised by Khenjon-glang Theatre Centre and Social Welfare Department under the aegis of National School of Drama (NSD) Theatre & Education Wing, Tripura commenced at the relief camp at Lamboi Khongnangkhong Trade Expo Centre on Sunday.
Speaking during the opening function of the workshop, noted theatre director Dr S Thanil Leima expressed that the workshop, which will feature work based on theatre tools, will definitely help in diverting the minds of displaced children from the stress they have been subjected to due to ongoing conflict.
She continued that theatre is not just staging of play or drama on the stage, but the conventional elements used in production of a play or drama have a major role in influencing the society'towards meaningful life.
Though such workshop is relatively new in the state, in other metropolitan cities it has become a part of education policy, she noted.
S Thanil also mentioned that the workshop will imbibe in the children do something for the society and not just pursue education to land job.
The workshop will focus on reducing the chances of occurrence of mental diseases among displaced children by working to address the fear psychosis and to save them from any negative impact from past misfortunes they experienced, she conveyed.
S Thanil further informed that in the first phase, the workshops are being conducted at the Lamboi Khongnangkhong Trade Expo Centre and Temporary Shelter Home, Sajiwa with participation of around 60 children each, while adding more such theatre education workshop would be conducted in other relief camps and schools.
The event was also attended by social welfare director Ngangom Uttam and retired teacher Moirangthem Modhu as presidium members.
