Meritorious students of Sagolband, Mayai Koibi feted

Several students of Sagolband Assembly Constituency who cleared various competitive examinations were felicitated during a function organized by Sagolband Kendra Development cum Beneficiary Committee at Sagolband Nepra Menjor Community Hall here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr Kh Loken, ex-MLA Sagolband A/C conceded that the State with its small population has now been able to compete with other big States of the country in setting exemplary records in education apart from in the field of sports.
Nonetheless, he pointed out that more efforts and hard work are needed from people of the State especially students as it is lacking behind in several other fields as compared to other States.
Stating that only hard work, discipline and perseverance will bring success in life which students of the State should stick to it, he added that the future of the society lies in the hand of good students.
The felicitation function was also attended by T Ibochouba, president of Sagolband Kendra Development cum Beneficiary Committee as President while L Kamakyakumar, principal of HRD Academy; K Nabachandra, former Additional Director of Education (U); Kh Bira, president of Nepra Menjor YODA; S Tiken, Councilor; Kalanchonglu Golmei, Councillor and K Tikendro, Councilor as Guests of Honor.
On the other hand, a similar felicitation function was organized by Mayai Koibi Development Association on Saturday for students of Mayai Koibi area who secured high marks in Class X and XII examination 2014 at Mayai Koibi Leikai in Imphal West district.
Speaking at the function as Chief Guest, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai stated that education is necessary to bring changes in the society and knowing this, students who are the future of the State should concentrate in their studies wholeheartedly.
She further said that parents also need to play a pivotal role in molding their children as future career of students should not be left only to teachers and educational institutes.
Maintaining that the Social Welfare Department has also been taking up various schemes with giving special reference to education, the Minister called upon the clubs and civil society organizations to come up with measures which will ensure strengthening of education sector in the State.
The function was also attended by K Mahendra Singh, president of Mayai Koibi Development Association and Dr Y Babu Singh, retd Professor of RIMS as President and Guest of Honor respectively.
