ZB objects recruitment of rape accused as ASI

Imphal, July 14 2015 : Zeliangrong Baudi Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) on Tuesday have demanded Home Department of Manipur to immediately drop the name of the rape accused, Ashang Shimray from the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) recruitment list.

Ashang Shimray is accused of raping a minor girl on January 1, 2014 and the case is still going on in the court, said a release by General Secretary of the Baudi.

The raped accused Ashang Shimray had been selected by the Home Department of Manipur for the post of ASI and is now undergoing training at Manipur Police Training College Pangei, Imphal East.

While expressing shock at the news the Baudi questioned that how the department could have selected such a rape accused as an ASI without proper scrutiny.

The selection committee or verifying officer needs an explanation to the public for selecting the rape accused person.

This act of selection is damaging the police image and it is against the law of the land, added the statement.

The Baudi mentioned that till today any interim relief to the minor rape victim has not been provided.

Adding that this act is also nothing but a "justice delayed is justice denied".

The Baudi also demanded the court to bring justice at the earliest.
