Imphal, November 13 2024:
Senior advocate Khaidem Mani has suggested that the state government either wake up and take a cabinet decision to push the Centre for resolving the current crisis or stop trying to govern the people.
Briefing the media at his Moirangkhom residence on Wednesday, Mani said that it is becoming increasingly clear that the government is failing to govern the state as it should.
Anarchy has almost set in and Manipur is in the throes of losing its territorial integrity.
The Meetei community has no access to parts of the state, with some now lawless, he pointed out.
Questioning whether it is right for the Kuki terrorists to demand a separate administration, while killing innocent Meetei civilians, he asserted that the Meetei community will never cede to the demand.
"To prevent such extreme terrorist acts, the state government should exercise its sovereign right given by the Constitution and do what is needed".
Stating that the six people including a baby held hostage by the Kuki terrorists in Jiribam cannot be regarded as a simple abduction or a missing case, Mani said that while men might fight against each other, it is universally wrong to abduct women and children.
He then called on the Kuki terrorists to release the women and children safely.
At the same time, he extolled the CRPF personnel in Jiribam for what he called as "upholding their duties to protect the citizens of this country" .
The other central forces must also learn to protect the citizens, as is their duty, instead of turning against the people, he asserted, while urging the state government to prevail upon the centre to restore peace and stability in Manipur.
