JAC seeks SIT probe into mother-daughter case

Expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation into the 'suspicious' death of Ningombam Ningol Adhikarimayum ongbi Basanti and her daughter Lanchenbi, the JAC formed to pursue the case has demanded the government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to unearth facts behind the death.
The JAC organised a mass rally from Haoreibi Kangjeibung till Haoreibi Mayai Leikai on Sunday followed by a public meeting at the latter's local community hall.
Mayai Lambi Meira Paibisinggi Apunba Lup (MLAMPAL) advisor S Sakyai Leima, JAC co-convenor N Shyama, United NGO Mission Manipur, District Women Committee, Imphal West co-convenor N Jeevanmala, AMUCO president Nando Luwang and leaders of Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup attended the public meeting along with locals, members of several NGOs and Meira Paibi Lups of the surrounding area.
Interacting with the me dia after the meeting, JAC co-conyenor M Moses regretted that the police are yet to find a single clue on the incident even after 21 days, which the JAC sees as negligence on the part of the police.
Recounting that the government assured to furnish the post mortem report by October 15, he urged the government to take up necessary precautionary measures in case the post mortem report contains anything that might heighten tension in the area.
The co-convenor maintained that the JAC has been waiting patiently for the post mortem report so far, along with declaring that the locals will launch intense agitation if the government fails to make public the probe report by October 15.He also told media persons that the meeting strongly decried the slow progress of the investigation and non-dis-closure of the report of the post mortem conducted on September 24 .
The meeting also resolved to raise the demand to form a SIT to investigate the matter, he added.
