Imphal, June 13 2024:
Wushu players staged sit-in protest at Palace Gate, here, on Thursday, denouncing the bomb threat to Wushu Association of Manipur ex-general secretary Mayanglambam Birmani Singh on June 10 night.
Speaking on the sidelines, Bishnupur District Wushu Association secretary Birmani Singh condemned the bomb attack by unknown persons at the Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai residence of Birmani, who is father of Dr M Amitkumar.
Expressing suspicion that the incident may be related to the Association, Birmani recounted that some individuals, who are not primary members of the Association, tried to canvas support of people from other disciplines to take over the Association some years ago, which, however, was resolved through negotiations with different organisations and bodies.
Chipping in Wushu national referee Surjit Konthoujam suggested that even if there is outstanding issue, the same can be solved through talks instead of threatening someone's life and turning against each other.
As such, he appealed to all concerned to clarify reason for the threat.
During the sit-in, the national and international level players and coaches held placards inscribed with slogans, "We condemn threat to human life", "Brute force can never suppress the truth", and "Govt should arrest and punish the persons responsible" .
