Speaking at the inaugural function as one of the presidium members, Manipur University VC Prof N Lokendra remarked that NEP 2020 will aid students in increasing their experience and knowledge.
NEP 2020 was formulated with the objective of replacing the archaic British system of education in the country, including the stereotypes associated with it, into a disciplinary education.
He continued that apart from bringing about a multiple education system, the new policy gives equal emphasis on theory and field experience, with the intention to cultivate the skill set of the students.
MU has begun restricting its syllabus based on the policy, he informed, while stressing on the need for the government to ensure effective implementation of the policy.
In his speech, Manipur University of Culture VC Prof Paonam Gunindro pointed out that part of the NEP 2020 could be modified to be made compatible with the education system of the state so as to ensure speedy implementation.
The clauses of multilingualism, national textbook with local context, teachers' recruitment and development mentioned in the policy should be the key focus areas.
For this, information about the state should be incorporated in the syllabi of Class I to XII.
This step will help educate the students about the cultural aspects of the state, he maintained.
Prof Gunindro continued that students should be well aware of their respective state.
The modern education system seems to forget the core value system including decorum, moral value and ethics.
NEP contains clauses for informing the students of their respective communities and cultures, he said and urged for including other important clauses not yet mentioned in the policy.
Delivering the key note speech, KSA HQ HRD secretary H Babulu remarked that the youth of Manipur need to cultivate/learn skills which could help the state catch up with the changing education system of India.
There will also be a need to develop social skill, hard/soft skill and technical skills, apart from filling the loopholes in the administration to ensure effective and factual implementation of the policy.
Babulu then called for concerted efforts in implementing NEP in Manipur to help the student community to be able to create a niche in the international arena.
The inaugural function was also attended by KSA president Sukham Bidyananda and University and Higher Education additional director P Santikumar as presidium members.
