Rio takes up Naga issue in Parliament

Member of Parliament from Nagaland in Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio while participating in the motion of thanks in the Parliament called upon the Government of India to expedite the Naga peace process and bring about an early and honorable political solution, according to the PRO of Nagaland House, Delhi.
Highlighting the fact that Nagaland is the 16th State of the Indian Union and commemorating its 50th year, Rio stated that the ceasefire is now 17 years old and even after about 70 rounds of talks, the peace process is yet to find a logical conclusion.
He stated that with political solution and peace investments from within and outside the State would take place, the PRO, Nagaland House added.
Touching upon north eastern issue, Rio brought to the information of the House that he represents the North East Regional Parties Front (NERPF) which has ten political parties under its fold.
Clarifying on some wrong information that had appeared in sections of the media, the former three times chief minister of Nagaland said that he and his party is a bona fide member of the NDA.
Appreciating the President's Address to Parliament, Rio said that the NDA government has given a broad vision to take the country forward showing concerns for all sections of the people including the schedule tribes, schedule castes, OBCs the weaker sections of the people and the minorities.
He specially appreciated the specific mention of the north eastern region which he said indicates that the NDA is taking up a policy of inclusive development in the whole country, be it in the mainland or in all corners of the country.
He further highlighted the some of the problems of the north east which include international and inter-state border issues, insurgency problems, influx of illegal migrants, economic backwardness lack of development and slow economic growth.
He regretted that the north east is in the news for the wrong reasons and whenever we are in the news for the right reasons, it is not exhibited to the nation.
"Maybe because of that, the rest of the country thinks that the north east is a liability to the country", he said.
Rio said that north east has huge human resources, mineral deposits and other capacities and therefore urged upon the Centre to utilize and exploit the potentials of the north east particularly the youth.
Rio suggested to the House saying, "While we welcome the food security bill, we should have a job security bill so that work culture is developed whereby we work, we earn and we eat otherwise if we just give food the work culture will be destroyed and the country will not march forward" .
Rio opined that under the NDA, better days are ahead for the country, especially the north eastern region, according to the PRO, Nagaland House, Delhi.
