Imphal, March 13 2025:
Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) celebrated its 31st foundation anniversary at Kabow Leikai, Imphal East district, on Wednesday.
The function was attended by Meetei Society Churachandpur president Moirangthem Thoiba Meitei, Kha-Nong-pok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh president Th Ibemhal Leima and MCM president Mayanglambam Thoiba Meitei as presidium members.
Internally displaced persons from Churachandpur and Moreh, who are staying in different relief camps, also attended the anniversary function.
Speaking on the occasion, Thoiba contended that the attack on Meetei people by Kuki miscreants on May 3, 2023, was not an isolated incident as the Kukis had also targeted the Tamil community in Moreh, which the Meeteis intervened and resolved the conflict.
Moreover, Meeteis had also provided protection to the Paite tribe and safely escorted them till Churachandpur after attacks by the Kuki, he recalled.
Thoiba also asserted that in-spite of the Kukis holding grudge and targeting the Meetei community, their agenda will not only fructify but will also pay a heavy price.
As the on-going conflict is certain to cause trauma to the younger generation, he suggested that Meetei and Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) endeavour to resolve the crisis at the earliest possible.
Thoiba also alleged that when Meeteis apply for aad-haar card, authorities insist on furnishing wide range of documents, contrary to which Kukis from Myanmar have convenient access to such documents, often in exchange for money.
He also appealed to everyone to support the Meeteis of Moreh and work towards ensuring safe return to their ancestral homes.
