AR units hold Covid awareness, tree plantation drives

Imphal, June 12 2021: Chandel and Moreh battalions of IGAR (South) promoted Covid Appropriate Behaviour and conducted a tree plantation drive in Beru Anthi village, Chandel on Saturday.

In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the villagers were explained about the significance of social distancing, sanitisation and benefits of tree plantation for maintaining the ecological balance.

Apart from planting tree saplings, the troopers also distributed face masks, sanitizers and other essential items to the villagers.

In a similar activity, Mantripukhri and Keithelmanbi battalions organised a tree plantation drive in and around Imphal from June 9 to 12 towards promoting the 'Go Green Initiative'.

According to the PRO IGAR (S), the tree plantation drive was conducted with an aim to control the global warming, make environment pollution free and spread awareness on importance of clean environment.

As part of initiative, saplings were planted by the troops of Assam Rifles and educated the troops about the importance of trees in maintaining the ecological equilibrium.

Meanwhile, Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi sector/ IGAR (E) established COVID care assistance centre at Maram Garrison.

With the commencement of 3rd stage vaccination drive launched by government to fight against Covid-19, Maram battalion joined hands with civil administration to curb this pandemic, said an AR release.

The initiative taken up by the Chief Medical Officer and the RMO of the unit has made the unit MI Room as vaccination centre for civilians.

With unit MI Room becoming vaccination centre, general public can book appointment online through Aarogya Setu App and CoWIN site for vaccination.

In all 185 civilians have been vaccinated through this centre till date.

Basic medical essential items like face masks, hand sanitizer are also issued to all the needy.

At the same time, guidance and precautionary measures against COVID was also provided by medical staff.

In this way, Assam Rifles has been committing in assisting in creation of Corona Free Society, the release said.
