Awareness on trans-boundary animal disease held

Imphal, September 10 2021:
4 one-day awareness programme on Trans Boundary Animal Disease, controlling foot and mouth disease of cattle organised by Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services was held at the conference hall of Hill Tribal Council (HTC)Moreh on Friday.
HTC president Jangmang Haokip, and V&AH joint director (administration) Dr Ng Ibotombi and Meetei Council Moreh president M Thoiba attended the programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Observing the presence of cross border trade of cattle and pigs in the border town, MCM president M Thoiba emphasised on the importance of such awareness programme and said that there are high possibilities of cross border transmission of diseases if adequate precautions are not taken up.
As resource persons of the programme, Joint director Dr Ng Ibotombi spoke on 'national animal disease control programme on FMD' and 'brucellosis in India', Bishnupur district joint director Dr Laishram Gojen on 'foot and mouth diseases, and its vulnerability in border state Manipur', Thoubal district joint director Dr RK Khogendrajit on 'epidemiological studies on FMD, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, control measures and its eradication', specialist (fodder) Dr N Bhubaneshwar on 'clinical sample collection, preservation and dispatch of clinical samples of FMD and brucellosis to state DI laboratory'.
According to Dr RK Khogendrajit, the national animal disease control programme was launched as one of the Prime Minister's flagship programmes in 2019 with a target of controlling FMD by 2025 and eradicating the same by 2030.Churachandpur district joint director L Arunkumar and deputy director (dairy) P Krishnamohon were also present at the event.
