HPC-D cadre arrested with explosives, drugs

Imphal, January 10 2025:
Security forces have arrested a cadre of HPC-D found in possession of explosive materials and drugs, allegedly attempting to escalate the ongoing crisis in the state, while transporting the items from Tipaimukh via Barak River towards Jiribam.
The person has been identified as Lalchuoilo (48) son of Thuomlien Lungthulien of Parbung in Pherzawl district.
He is an active cadre of Hmar People's Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) .
According to a police report, responding to specific information about the transportation of explosive materials from the Tipaimukh via the Barak River route to disrupt the peaceful environment, a combined team of 38 AR personnel along with Borobekra police conducted mobile frisking and a checkpoint at the Barak River bank near Tuisolen village under Borobekra sub-division on Thursday.
During the operation, a passenger engine boat was stopped near the riverbank.
When the boat slowed down, an unidentified person carrying a blue backpack jumped off the boat and attempted to flee in a suspicious manner.
Security forces chased and apprehended the individual.
Upon inspecting the backpack, 20 explosive sticks wrapped in brown paper, 11 detonators and one meter of safety fuse were recovered.
Further inspection revealed 44 soap caps containing brown powder in transparent plastic pouches, highly suspected to be contraband drugs (brown sugar).
A case has been registered at the Borobekra police station, and an investigation is underway.
