Thoubal, January 09 2025:
As observed across the state and beyond, the "Reconsolidation Day" event, commemorating the 191st death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, also known as Iningthou Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba, was organised by the United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) Manipur, at Anjuman-lslah-E-Muashara office located in Lilong Turel Ahanbi Dam in Thoubal district, on Thursday.
The function was attended by UMPC president Alhaj Moulana Muheiyuddin, additional SP Babul Kalam and Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president MA Chesaba as presidium members.
UMPC advisor Dr Badaruddin and DM University associate professor Dr Syed Ahmed were present as resource persons and spoke on the topic "Contributions of Meitei Pangal in Defeating Burmese Forces during the Seven Years Devastation for a Sovereign Manipur".
During the function, the president of UMPC Manipur also released a book outlining the rules and regulations of the organisation.
In his address, Alhaj Maheiyuddin highlighted the significant role played by the Meitei Pangal community in the history of Manipur.
He noted that the contributions of the Meitei Pangal are often overlooked, as the current generation rarely discusses their history.
This, he said, creates the false impression that the Meitei Pangal community has made no contributions to Manipur's past, which he firmly disagreed with.
He urged all communities living in the state to show mutual respect, unite and work together to preserve the integrity of Manipur.
Reflecting on the past, he recalled the tradition where Muslim elders would place at least one mound of earth during the construction of a Meetei house.
This, he said, symbolised the unity and cooperation that once existed, and stressed the importance of coming together as one to protect and safeguard the state's future.
