Covid issues dominate observance of Physiotherapy Day

Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Women Cell (JAPWC) Manipur state team and other organisations of physiotherapists observed World Physiotherapy Day at different parts of the state on Wednesday.
The observance function organised by IAPWC was held at the residence of late Laisom Lalit at Keisamthong Laisom Leirak, Imphal.
As part of the observance, an awareness programme on Covid and rehabilitation was also conducted under the sponsorship of Laisom Santosh.
Pamphlets with details on telephonic consultation were also distributed among the participants of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, IAPWC state coordinator Angom Rita informed that the state unit was established with the objective of providing physiotherapy intervention to Covid recovered people while following WHO protocol.
It is an initiative by female physiotherapists of the state to provide consultation facility since there is limited facilities for physiotherapy in the major hospitals of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Social Welfare Department retired district officer Ksh Subadani cautioned that the decreasing number of Covid-19 positive cases does not mean we should slack off and stressed that all concerned should take the Covid-19 test if there is any suspicion of being exposed to the virus.
While urging all concerned not to hide disease, Subadini said that hiding infection from the disease will only lead to serious risk in life.
Intending candidate Laisom Santosh, who also attended the programme, said that during the early stage of the pandemic, people were fearful and made sure to strictly adopt all precautionary measures.
However, people are slowly becoming less serious about contracting the virus, which could be dangerous.
Thus, he urged all concerned to be more aware in this regard, while further urging the state government and the authorities concerned to continue imparting awarenes on the same.
On the other hand, All Manipur Physio-Therapist Association (AMPA) observed World Physiotherapist Day on the theme of 'Long Covid-19 and Rehabilitation' at Uripok Sorbon Thingel.
Speaking at the event, AMPA secretary general Dr Leishangthem Romenkumar Meetei recounted that World Physiotherapist Day was first observed on September 8, 1996 in London with the aim of promoting physiotherapy and its benefits to the people.
In Manipur, it was first observed in 2013.He continued that post Covid-19 physiotherapeutic treatment are being provided to patients under the guidance of the Association, which includes regular breathing exercises.
Taking into account of the fact that other states have already set up respective independent councils for physiotherapy, the Association had been appealing to the state government to set up a similar independent council in Manipur for regulating the profession.
As such, he appealed to the government to set up the same at the earliest.
As part of the programme, the Association also launched helpline numbers (7005675927/8132075320) for physiotherapy patients especially for post-Covid patients.
