Drugs worth over ₹11 cr destroyed

Drugs worth around Rs 11 crore recovered during drives carried out by Progressive Alliance for Leadership and Empowerment Mothers (PALEM) and World Meitei Organisation (WMO) in different parts of the state were destroyed at Lamdeng by Lamdeng and Lamsang meira paibi groups, on Wednesday.
The operation involved the burning of 99 packets of opium (Kani) seized during a drive in Mantripukhri area on December 28, 2024, as well as 34 soap cases containing heroin in a raid in Khurai area on December 19, 2024 .
The drug consignments were destroyed at Lamdeng.
PALEM secretary Moirangthem Rina shared that during the Mantripukhri drive, PALEM and WMO volunteers intercepted a truck, seizing 99 packets of opium worth about Rs 10 crore.
She said that the drive will continue and urged for extending moral and material support in the fight against drug abuse to protect the youth of the state.
WMO president Laitonjam Ashalata Devi recounted that during the Khurai drive, they recovered 34 soap cases of heroin, valued at around Rs 1 crore, from the possession of two individuals namely Thounaojam Purnima of Narankonjin Mamang Leikai and Nongmaithem Rupa of Khongjom Sapam Mamang Leikai.
Efforts are underway to track down the main source of the drugs, she said.
