Imphal, August 07 2023:
Taking undue advantage of houses abandoned due to the ethnic conflict which broke out on May 3, Kuki miscreants reportedly burglarised Meitei houses at Torbung Bangla on Monday morning despite deployment of personnel of 193 Battalion CRPF in the area.
According to a report, at about 8am Monday, a large crowd of Kuki men and women descended at Torbung Meitei Leikai and burglarised the houses in the area.
The crowd passed through Kangvai, which is has ample presence of 9 Assam Rifles and Torbung, manned by 193 Bn CRPF, unimpeded.
They were also not stopped by the central forces on duty in the area, when they began leaving the area with the goods stolen from Meitei houses.
Mention may be made here that after the conflict began on May 3, the Meitei people had fled the area.
Soon after, various incidents of Kukis from Churachandpur stealing roofing tin sheets and other items from the empty houses in the area along with looting Meitei pharmacies in Kangvai Bazar have been reported continuously.
A few days ago, the Meitei houses and shops in Torbung Bangal were flattened using JCB.
Meanwhile, the central forces deployed in the area have turned a blind eye to the lootings done by Kukis during the on going conflict.
As such, several displaced people from Torbung have accused the central forces of facilitating the Kukis in looting their (Meitei) homes, stating that their trust on the central forces of protecting their homes have been broken to pieces.
