Civil bodies claim no Bangladeshis in Jiribam

All Jiribam Minority People's Welfare Organisation, All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society (AJMWS), Nari Jauthomanch, Jiribam, AH Jiribam Bengali Students Union(UBSl ) have condemaned the article written by Dr Khomdon Lisam which was published in an Imphal-based local English daily on July 30 last.
The last para of the article "change of chairman of Drafting Committee" is 100% false and fabricated, a joint release said.
It said the above organisations request the writer to make correction of the statement mentioned so that misconception from the mind of the common people and misunderstanding among the different groups/communities may be wiped out.
It warned that the writer has to tender an apology to the people for misleading them and inciting communal tension.

The statement claimed that there are no Bangladeshis, immigrant or migrant workers from Bangladesh in Jiribam.
The Bengali speaking people settled in Jiribam came during the period when Manipur was under kingship and also during the British period.
These people cannot be regarded as Bangladeshis, foreigners, migrant workers, etc.
They are native citizens of Manipur and are indigenous people, it insisted.
It further rejected the writer's allegations that the Bengali speaking people have been allowed to settle in different villages of Jiribam like Borobekra, Jatrapur, Bhumikpara, Jakuradhor, Dolakhal Muslim, Sonapur, Lalpani, Islamabad, Aimunadabad, Kashimpur, Balijuri, Aglapur, Mullargaon, Nunkhal Jarolpokpi Kamranga Muslim, Rashidpur-Muslim, Champanagar � Muslim, etc by Forest Minister Th Debendra Singh.
