Water levels recede in Thoubal district

Kakching, August 06 2015:
The flood affected people of Thoubal district still continue to suffer even though the water level of the rivers receded.
Many civil organisations, NGOs continue supplying relief materials to victims.
The most flooded areas are Chana Leiriba Tentha, Tekcham, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Wabagai, Kakching, Heirok and Pallel.
Volunteers of Disaster Relief Forum, Kakching have supplied relief materials like rice, beans, and other eatable items and gave financial assistance.
Social Development Organisation (SDO) Pallel also extended financial help and supplied drinking waters to flood victims of Pallel area.
Meanwhile, flood affected area Development committee, Nongpok Sekmai alleged that the affected people in their area did not get any relief materials from the authorities apart from Thoubal DC who helped some rice and oils to them.
The Committee further said that over 5000 acres of agriculture field including standing crops were submerged, over 200 acres of fishery farms were also destroyed.
The committee further alleged that the authorities still failed to repair the breached river bank near Patnarou Thingel.
