National seminar on climate change begins at MEC

A two-day national seminar on 'Climate change: Action policies & responsibilities of the government' commenced Tuesday at the auditorium of Mount Everest College (MEC), Senapati.
The seminar is being organised by Research Committee in collaboration with IQAC of the college.
In his welcome address at the inaugural session of the seminar, MEC vice principal Gonmei Meithuanlungpou said everyone has responsibility to protect the mother Earth and responsible for climate change and global warming.
He said that students should be aware of climate change and get involved in doing things to prevent climate change and not to pollute the Earth.
Delivering the key note address, professor N Deva Singh, former dean of School of Human & Environmental Science, MU, elaborated on the causes of climate change.
Global warming is a product of nature and exacerbated by the humans, he said and categorised climate change as natural causes and human causes.
During the technical session, different resource persons from across the country presented their papers on blended mode through online and offline modes.
As a resource person, assistant professor Dr Kreni Lokho of Asufii Christian Institute, Mao, presented a paper on 'Exploring vulnerabilities and resilience strategies on climate change: A case study of the Mao Naga community' while another resource person Dr Lalsangzela Sailo of Mizoram University presented a paper on 'Spring water geochemistry and its recharge mechanisms in West Phaileng, Mizoram'.
Sylvia Ningthoujam and Lal Bihari Singha of MU also jointly presented papers on 'Effect of season on soil properties in microhabitat of Dendrocalamus latiflorus in Manipur' while PhD scholar Paveine Taisha of MU presented a paper on 'The indispensable grip of language in fostering climate behaviour' .
