Imphal, December 05 2021:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has stated that candidates preparing for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election must come together and hold debates in various localities of their constituencies.
In a release, SSUM joint secretary Hassan termed as unfortunate that the number of unwanted incidents is increasing day by day as the election gets nearer.
In the name of election, feasts are being hosted and meetings convened to show force consequently leading to many untoward incidents.
How can any government formed by people who indulge in such incidents work for welfare and betterment of the public, it questioned.
SSUM appealed to the people to think deeply on the matter.
Stop joining feasts or other unethical activities.
Cooks, who take part in such feasts, except those held in the residence of the election candidate should be barred from cooking in ritual ceremonies, it stressed.
SSUM continued that people should stop organising music concerts and Shumang Leela for election.
Instead, local clubs and meira paibi groups should ask the candidates to engage in healthy debates on development.
Hear what they have to say and ask questions to ascertain their plans and agenda, suggested the Union and stressed that the people should try to gauge intention of the intending candidates.
Local clubs and meira paibi groups should not just listen to one but lend ear to all the candidates.
If any candidate does not participate after invitation from local clubs and meira paibi groups, then they should boycott him/her.
Let's ensure that the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election is con ducted in the right way, it further suggested.
