Zeliangrong bodies condemn Ukhrul incident

Imphal, September 05 2014 : Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) have strongly condemned the Police Commando and IRB of Manipur Government for killing two innocent youths, Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi at Ukhrul district HQ during a peaceful public rally against prolonged imposition of 144 CrPC on August 30 last.

A joint statement issued today by Nchaheing Kompoing, General Secretary of AZSU and David Kamei, General Secretary of ZYF (AMN) said that people have been protesting against prolonged promulgation of 144 CrPC, sending and deployment of massive security forces at Ukhrul in the aftermath of the assassination of one ADC member Ngalangzar Malue.

But the State Government has been adamant to the people's demand on grounds of protecting the people of Ukhrul, the statement pointed out while alleging that the security forces instead of protecting the people have again killed two promising innocent youths without any justification.

It has become habitual for the Manipur Government security forces to kill innocent persons particularly Nagas whenever any democratic agitation was organized to ventilate their grievances, it continued and said the decision of United Naga Council (UNC) to ban vehicular movement on all National and state Highways and works for national projects is a right decision.

Endorsing the UNC call, the statement said it will strictly enforce the ban in the Zeliangrong areas.

Saying the Manipur Govt has not ordered any judicial enquiry into the incident and disclosed the identities of the personnel involved in the shooting till date, the statement of Zeliangrong bodies asked, 'Is there any reason for the Manipur Govt to justify the killing of innocent two promising youths?' .
