AR units Join Environment Day observance

Observing World Environment Day, 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector AR/IGAR (East) conducted various activities to spread awareness about the threat to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change.
In a release, PRO (Defence) informed that the Battalion initiated a mass plantation drive to plant 11,000 saplings in Tamenglong and Kangpokpi districts in the next three days.
For beautification of roads, various ornamental flowering shrubs are being planted by the Battalion.
Further, Boganvillia and Hibiscus saplings were also planted along Rani Gaidin-liu Vatika on Khongsang-Tamenglong road.
Along with the plantation drive, an awareness rally with various placards on environment protection was taken out on Khongsang-Tamenglong road.
To commemorate the day, a cleanliness drive at the water reservoir, Tamenglong was also organised and spread the message o'f clean environment.
Assam Rifles battalions of IGAR (S) also observed World Environment Day at various locations in Imphal, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Kakching, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on Sunday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), multiple activities such as mass tree plantation, cleanliness drive, awareness lectures, yoga sessions and painting competition for children on environment theme were organised to mark Day.
The events were organised to spread awareness among locals regarding environment protection and ecological balance.
165 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth) Assam also planted around 1000 saplings in different districts of the state.
The plantation drive was based on collaboration efforts between the security forces and local populace.
More than 400 individuals including officers, JCOs and other ranks of 165 Infantry Battalion and locals participated in the plantation drive with a pledge to keep on continuing to save the mother earth for our future generations to prosper.
