Meitei Students' Union formed

A students' body christened as Meitei Students' Union (MSU) has been formed with the objective of establishing a prosperous existence of Meitei identity with dignity, a release of the newly mooted Union said.
The union shall strive to bring a world class intellectual excellence among the Meitei students in academics and higher research education at the global level, stated the release while making commitments to serve for a better world to live in.
The release of the Union further said, 'Meitei, which is around 0.01% of India's population, has more than 3500 years old civilization with its own unique script called Meitei Mayek and language named Meiteilon'.
Manipuri which is also called Meiteilon, is one of the 8 Major Indian Languages recognised by the Constitution of India.
Meitei gave Sagol Kangjei which is popularly called 'Polo' to the world.
Ras Leela, Manipuri classical dance, one of the 6 classical dances of India, is bestowed on the culture and dance form of the world by Meiteis.
Meitei folk songs and music, games and martial arts Thang ta are inherent in Meitei people since time immemorial, it continued.
Saying that many Meiteis have been educated in Cambridge, Oxford and Ivy League Universities besides the best colleges and academia of India, the release cited that Lt.General Himalaya Singh, a Meitei Indian army officer, who became the first 3 star-general of India from the North East India.
It also pointed out that Falguni Rajkumar, IAS (Retd.) became the first Meitei IAS officer (and also first IAS officer from Manipur in General category), IAS of 1972 batch, to become Union Secretary to Government of India.
Countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar and Israel have Meitei nationalities, it claimed while stating that Meiteis also settle across the globe in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Dubai, South Korea, Singapore, China, Russia, Ukraine, Japan, Taiwan, etc.
