Tribute paid to landslide victim GR jawan

A team of All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union AMGSU) and Manipur Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA) visited the residence of (late) rifleman Tek Bahadur Thapa, son of Kharka Bahadur Thapa of Leplen village, Senapati district, who was one of the victims of the landslide in Noney district, to pay their last respect.
In a release, AMGSU informed that the team shared the pain and grief of the family and prayed to the Almighty to give eternal peace to the departed soul, it added.
AMGSU mentioned that Tek Bahadur Thapa was a jawan of 11GR (TA) posted at the Makhuam (Marangching) village post two months ago to ensure security for the railway construction work and was buried alive in the tragic landslide.
He was the sole bread earner of his family and is survived by his parents, wife and his younger brother.
The last rite of the jawan was performed on Saturday at his native village with full military honours.
Gorkha community of Manipur will always be indebted to him for the sacrifice he made for the nation, it said.
The release also conveyed that AMGSU and MGYA also visited Makhuam (Marangc-hing) and provided some relief items to the rescue workers.
AMGSU further extended gratitude to CM N Biren, cabinet ministers, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, Noney district administration, Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, NF Railways, CSOs of different communities and local Villagers for their tireless efforts rendered during the ongoing rescue operations.
AMGSU also thanked SDO Saikul, village chiefs of Lep-len village, G Songmun village and its adjoining villages for the support and cooperation extended during the conduct of funeral service of Tek Bahadur Thapa.
