World AIDS Day observed across state

Lions Club of Kakching Greater in association with Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association, Kakching observed World AIDS Day-2024 at Healing Point-IRCA (Drug De- addiction Centre/Rehab Centre), Kakching Chumnang Leikai Machin Manao Chinglak on Sunday.
The function was attended by Lions Club of Kakching Greater president Uttamkumar Naorem, and Yoga and Nature Cure Association secretary Dr Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest and president respectively while Kakching Khunou PHC MO (AYUSH) Dr N Ambrabati and Lions Club of Kakching Greater secretary Nongmaithem Sunita were the guests of honour.
Healing Point-IRCA project coordinator Salam Ramesh war delivered the key note address of the observance programme held under the theme "Take the Right Path: My Health My Right" .
Community Health Centre (CHC), Wangoi under the aegis of District Health Mission Society, Imphal West also observed 37th World AIDS Day 2024 at the centre with K Dhaneshori of RKS Wangoi, Mayai Lambi College principal RK Nimai, Way to Recovery Home project director Chongtham Bakim-chadra and Wangoi CHC MO-in-charge Dr N Sushila and Gynaecologist Dr Tampha were present as presidium members.
As part of the event, a rally was taken out in Wangoi area participated by doctors, nurses and staff of the health centre, students and people living with HIV/AIDS.
The participants used placards which read "Get tested know your HIV status", "Spread happiness not AIDS", "Hate the Disease not the Diseased", "Say no to drugs", etc.
The District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPSU) under the sponsorship of Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) also organised the World AIDS Day observance at Sinadam community hall, Chandel.
The function was attended by Chandel PHED JE Dil-bung Shenong Lamkang, DAPCU Dr B Cingdeihnieng and'SASO, Chandel branch programme manager Pashel Mono as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Staff of Chandel Network of Positive People (CNP+), MACS, SASO Chandel, DISHA Chandel and Tengnoupal (DAPCU) , New Generation, and other NGOs were also present at the event.
A rally was also taken out as part of the observance in addition to holding a Mass Candle Lighting campaign at Japhou Women's Market.
Meanwhile, World AIDS Day observance was organised District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU), Thoubal under the aegis of Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) at WIGC-Children Home, Thoubal Wangmataba, on Sunday.
The function held under the theme "Take the Right Path, My Health My Rights", was attended by Thoubal CMO Dr Y Nokul, District AIDS Control officer Dr Y Bijendra, District Malaria officer Dr L Lalitkumar and WIGC Children Home project manager K Okendrojit as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Nokul informed that various programmes are being implemented to contain spread of HIV, including efforts to prevent vertical transmission.
However, social stigma associated with the disease continues to persist, he rued and stressed the need for collective effort in addressing the same to contribute to the global goal of eliminating HIV /AIDS by 2030.The World AIDS Day was also observed in Jiribam district under the joint aegis of Child Welfare Ashram TI and the 50-Bedded Hospital, at latter's Ningsingkhul premises.
Speakers at the event pointed out the need for installing a CD4 count machine in Jiribam and urged the public to avoid discriminating people living with HIV.
As part of the programme, a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of those who lost their lives to the disease.
Gifts were also presented to the staff of the Child Welfare Ashram, CHC Jiribam, and ASHA workers in recognition of their dedicated service and hard work.
The event was attended by Jiribam CMO Dr Thiyam Bharat, CHC DMS in-charge Dr AK Khelendro, Child Welfare Ashram secretary RK Bijoysana, Jiri Development Organisation president Elangbam Dewan, Jiribam CHC MD of general medicine Dr Justin Haobam and ASHA workers.
