Kuki militants rain bullets, bombs on Meetei villages

Imphal, December 01 2023:
Suspected Kuki militants fired indiscriminately and launched bomb attacks on Meetei settlements at Koutruk and Yaingang-pokpi village on Friday night.
According to local sources, around 5 pm Friday several rounds were fired from the hilly terrain of Kangpokpi district towards Meetei villages at Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district, which Meetei village volunteers as well as Indian Army personnel retaliated forcing the attackers to flee.
Kuki militants also fired multiple rounds and launched bomb shelling front the hilltops towards Meetei villages at Koutruk and Kadangband under Imphal West district around 8:10 pm Friday.
Apart from village volunteers, CRPF personnel deployed in buffer zone near these village also resorted to retaliatory firing resulting in the gunfight lasting for around half an hour.
Till the filing of the report, there is no report of injury in the attacks though many villagers fled from the area with their belongings.
As the news about the attacks spread, large number of women folk trooped out along the Uripok-Kangchup road, while village volunteers from different parts of the valley rushed towards the attack site to extend help.
Additional security teams including state and central paramilitary forces have been deployed in the areas attacked by Kuki militants to strengthen the security.
