Imphal, October 01 2021:
Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi has questioned the BJP government at the Centre for its alleged silence on the abduction and gruesome murder of Athuan Abonmai' and stressed the incident merits immediate intervention by the government of India.
He also slammed the BJP government in connection with the flourishing drug trade under its rule in the state.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Thursday, Pradyut said that the Congress party strongly condemns the murder of Athuan Abonmai.
Central government agencies should intervene in this case and take up necessary actions rather than shirking it its responsibility.
It should expedite NIA or CBI investigation to solve the crime and arrest the culprits.
Regarding the drug trade issue, Pradyut said that 3000 kg of heroin worth around Rs 21,000 crore, which was shipped by the Afghanistan-based Aashi Trading Company was seized from a port in Gujarat recently.
There are reports of the trading company shipping 25,000 kg of heroin in June this year but the states security forces did not detect the smuggled consignment, which is highly questionable, he said.
On the other hand, police arrested some individuals along with WY tablets worth around Rs 4 crore from Thoubal district in 2019 but the accused was released by the court on bail.
The state government and its security forces have not been able to contain the drug trade and it is flourishing under the BJP government, he said.
So far, Manipur has not been able to return to the peaceful situation that it had during Congress government.
For instance, the recent assassination of Athuan Abonmai is a testimony of the security failure under the BJP government.
Congress government brought peace in the state through years of crucial efforts.
Congress will return to power in the 2022 election and bring back peace and development in the state.
Congress will never let the state's people suffer and will bring unity and integrity between the hills and valley, he assured.
On the other hand, large numbers of youth are facing unemployment issue and the state government is not releasing proper data to assess the issue.
Corruption is also increasingand there is no developmental change in the state.
The government has not been able to complete the new secretariat building, whose construction was initiated by the Congress government, he said.
