Imphal, November 30 2013 :
Irate locals of Luwangshangbam Matai Awang village in Imphal East district on Saturday forced all inter-state passenger buses heading for Guwahati and Shillong to turn back to the station and drop off all the passengers, demanding Manipur Government to secure the release of abducted driver Thoudam Rame.
Rame, driver of Royal Rajdhani tourist bus service, has been found missing without a trace since November 27 after three suspected militants from a Nagaland based insurgent group reportedly abducted him on his way at Viswema village in the neighbouring state.
On Saturday, A large number of local residents of Rame's native village Luwangshangbam Matai Awang village gathered at Mantripukhri Khabam Lamkhai along Imphal-Dimapur road (National Highway-2) in the morning and stopped all the Guwahati and Shillong-bound tourist buses.
They forced all the buses to turn back to the station and drop off all the passengers.
Women protesters at the site pledged more intense agitation over the abduction and demanded the state Government to secure the release of driver Rame at the earliest.
